Lithology and Thickness
The Cuijiatun Fm is dominantly composed of light gray to greenish gray silty shale, greenish gray to purple thin-bedded silty shale, glauconite siltstone and stromatolite-bearing limestone, which belongs to the platform slope facies. Its total thickness varies from 86 to 118 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
With a layer of thick-bedded siltstone, the basal part overlies conformably the underlying Majiatun Fm
Upper contact
The top part, a layer of greenish gray silty shale, is bounded by the overlying Zhoujiawaizi Fm
Regional extent
Southern peninsula of Liaoning. The Cuijiatun Fm is dominantly exposed in Jinxian area and piecemeal exposed in Fuzhou area, of which the limestone intercalations are unstable. In Qipanmo section of Dalian, the stromatolite limestone occurs in the upper part, but in Beishan area, it occurs in the lower part, showing as lenticules.
